"Instead, train yourself to be godly. Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come." 1 Timothy 4:7b-8 The Bible teaches the importance of spiritual fitness. As God does his work of grace there are habits of faith that we need to practice which in turn opens us up to God's resources and the ongoing work he wants to accomplish in each of our lives. So often we approach our faith where we say "I am going to try harder." As John Ortberg has remarked, "There is an immense difference between training to do something and trying to do something. Spiritual transformation is not a matter of trying harder, but of training wisely."
